Some physiotherapy in BC is publicly funded for inpatients and limited outpatients at most hospitals. Publicly funded physiotherapy services are also available for children with disabilities or who are at risk of becoming developmentally delayed. Young children can be referred to the Early Intervention Therapy Program, and children over 5 to the School-Aged Therapy Program.
Aside from these publicly funded options, private physio services in BC are generally not covered under the British Columbia Medical Services Plan (MSP), unless you are receiving premium assistance. However, the majority of British Columbians do have supplementary health benefits from individually purchased or employer-paid insurance plans that cover all or at least some of the costs of physiotherapy.
Without any sort of coverage, physiotherapy sessions for these types of sports-related injuries can range anywhere from $60 to $200 per visit, depending on the clinic, the time spend with the physiotherapist, and the treatment method. Coverage from supplementary health benefit plans also varies, but is usually enough for a few covered visits. Most plans offer around $200 to $500 of coverage, with some going up to over $700.
